the garbage truck

one thing i really, really love about being a mom is seeing my kids happy, like genuinely happy. it seems that most often those moments are found in the little, everyday moments of life. like when i noticed the garbage truck was coming and called tanner out to see. he ran out as fast as he could and kept his eyes on the truck the whole time. he even jumped up and and down, pointed and yelled every time the garbage truck picked up a new can, all the while with a huge grin on his face.

school carnival

katelyn's school put on an end of year school carnival to raise money for the next school year.  i thought this was a fantastic idea.  i never like those fundraisers where you have to get someone to buy some kind of food.  this was much more fun for the whole family to participate in.

tyler really wanted to come, but he was rotating through the U that month, and friday nights were notoriously busy.  he ended up missing the whole activitity. thankfully, grandma and grandpa hedin were there to help out with the kids.

at the carnival the kids could bounce on any of the bounce houses as often as they wanted, use their tickets to play games and get prizes, and use their tickets to pick out some sweet treats.  definitely my favorite way to support the school so far.

outside fun

we've been spending a ton of time outside.  the kids can't get enough of running around, riding bikes and hanging out with friends.  it's one of their favorite things to do.  it helps that we share a driveway with our neighbors.  the kids run back and forth between garages, playing with whatever fun toys they can find.

at the end of the day after playing outside we have the same routine. drag the kids in, even though they really want to stay out then wash their dirty, dirty, black feet off (their feet get insanely dirty from playing on the concrete).

we're in trouble

reese has always loved her binky.  right from the start she took that thing in her mouth and held on, even while she slept as a newborn.  she has been our only baby who has ever done that.  she didn't need any training.  now, two years later, she still loves her binkys just  as much.  we are definitely getting to a point where we need to take them away soon, but i am just not ready!  it's so hard taking something away that soothes reese instantly if she is hurt or upset, helps her fall asleep and just generally keeps her extra happy.
i'm thinking when the day comes though, it will be a hard transition for both her and me.

hair salon

katelyn  has a hair set that she got from a friend a while back.  it't been played with quite a bit by all of our kids and is still going strong today.  one morning katelyn decided to set up a hair salon for reese and tanner.
they both sat quietly reading stories while katelyn went back and forth doing their hair.

end of the soccer season

soccer season has come and gone.  it was a great year with a great group of kids.  tanner certainly isn't the most committed or the fastest player, but he does have fun.  we're not sure that we're going to sign him up again next year though.  we might try something new to see if there is more of an interest.  we're thinking tee ball might be good for him.
